EXI Files Motion to Exonerate Rafael Jimenez

On July 2, 2014, EXI filed a motion to exonerate Rafael Jimenez, who has spent 18 years in prison for a 1992 Bronx murder he did not commit. Rafael, a New York born Puerto Rican, was 17 years old at the time of the crime. Both eyewitnesses - who were also Puerto Rican - told police that the shooter was a 24 to 26 year old Dominican man who spoke Spanish with a recognizable Dominican accent. The motion is based on the prosecution's key witness, who found out that Rafael is Puerto Rican and now is certain of his innocence, as well as evidence of Rafael's alibi. Litigation on the case is ongoing in the Supreme Court, Bronx County.Read more in the New York Post
