Selwyn and Stelwyn Days, moments after the jury verdict on September 12, 2017

EXI is thrilled to announce that our client Selwyn Days is finally a free man after 16 years behind bars for two murders he did not commit.  Selwyn was exonerated on September 12, 2017, after his fifth trial in a false confession homicide case.Selwyn's first and third trials ended in hung juries.  His second and fourth trials resulted in convictions, but both convictions were overturned.  Selwyn's fifth trial was the first one in which he was permitted to put on a robust defense, including expert testimony regarding the phenomenon of false confessions and his personal risk factors for false confession.  While holding the hands of his attorneys from EXI and the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, Selwyn heard for the first time on September 12 that a jury had found him not guilty of the crimes for which he had originally been sentenced to fifty years to life in prison.EXI and attorneys from Paul Weiss have been working tirelessly on Selwyn's case for a decade and we are elated to see him reunited with his family, especially his brother Stelwyn (pictured below) who sat through every one of his trials, holding out hope for the brother he knew to be innocent.Read more about Selwyn's false confession defense in the Journal NewsJournal News coverage of Selwyn's Acquittal
