EXI client Edward Garry granted new trial, freed from prison
We are so happy to announce that EXI client Edward Garry was released on bail this past Friday after serving nearly 22 years of a 25-to-life sentence for a Bronx murder he did not commit. On March 22, 2017 a judge granted Edward's motion to vacate his conviction and ordered a new trial, finding that the Bronx District Attorney's office wrongfully withheld evidence at his original trial which implicated another suspect. This has been a long time coming for Edward, who has been fighting to prove his innocence for two decades, and for EXI attorneys who worked for 7 years on his case. Edward is thrilled to be reunited with his family and adjusting to life as a free man.The Bronx District Attorney's Office announced in court on Friday that it would not appeal the judge's decision but that it would pursue a retrial. We are hopeful that Edward will be fully exonerated soon.
